Before starting his own companies, Scott worked as a quality assurance software engineer, specializing in cross-platform networking. He has worked with computers (starting first with electronics and hardware then migrating to software,) for more than 20 years. He has worked with a variety of individuals and companies, including consulting with Intel's staff regarding the development of the Pentium.

During this time, Scott has also worked in the music industry as a guitar technician, traveling around the world with several rock, metal, pop and jazz bands.

Stacy received a design degree in 1985 and a journalism degree in 1992. She has worked as a freelance designer creating everything from personal stationery to international ad campaigns. Additionally, she worked as an editor for several Bay Area magazines and has freelanced for many national publications. Stacy has spoken publicly about writing in addition to teaching writing courses. Before starting her own business, she worked as a vice president of marketing for a manufacturing company.
